Sea Spiral

Wind and Willow Site Specific Installation

Sea Spiral July 2007

The first wind and willow sculpture;a manifestation of nearly two years of ideas and visualisations of large scale wind enhanced installations.
With the intention to involve children in the process, and be sure they could interact with the sculpture when it was complete.
The subjects covered during my residency at the school touched on the sea and seasons, when the final weeks were near this developed into the spiral maze of willow and flags.
Circles, the ocean, children and games became the Sea Spiral.

Interacting with the sculpture

Every child in the school was represented by a flag, every child had a silk flag attached to their wrist to represent the fishes swimming in the sea.
Thanks go to Sally Frances for her faith and support in an unusual project. Many thanks to all the children and teachers who interacted with the, wind and willow flags
